How is GPA calculated?
GPA is a credit-weighted average: each course's grade points are multiplied by its credit hours, these are summed across all courses, and the total is divided by the sum of all credit hours. This means a 4-credit course affects your GPA more than a 1-credit course.
Frequently asked questions
Does this work for both semester and cumulative GPA?
Yes. Enter your courses for a single semester to get your semester GPA, or enter every course you've taken across all semesters to get your cumulative GPA (CGPA).
My university uses a different grading scale — can I still use this?
This calculator uses the standard US-style 4.0 scale. If your institution uses a different scale (such as a percentage-based or 4.3 scale), the grade points here may not exactly match your official transcript — always confirm with your university's grading policy for official purposes.
Is my data stored anywhere?
No. This tool is part of the Toolyard collection of free, browser-based utilities. All calculations run locally in your browser — nothing you enter is uploaded to a server or stored anywhere.
