Why "just count on a calendar" gets tricky
Counting days between two dates by hand seems simple until you hit a month boundary, a leap year, or a date range spanning multiple years — it's easy to be off by one, especially when deciding whether to count the start date, the end date, both, or neither. A calculator removes that ambiguity and gives you the precise number of days, along with a breakdown into years, months, and days when that's more useful than a single raw number.

A note on leap years
February has 29 days in leap years (any year divisible by 4, except century years not divisible by 400), and this calculator accounts for that automatically — so a date range spanning a leap year will show a slightly different day count than the same range in a non-leap year.
